From Marvel: “WOLVERINE VS. THE X-MEN CONTINUES! On the outside, an enraged Logan is fighting for his life against the combined might of both Namor and Magneto, while on the inside he’s battling to stop a horde of demons from burning him out of his own mind. And now some of his closest friends, including Storm, Rogue and Kitty Pryde, look to stage the most improbable of rescue missions. Powerhouses JASON AARON and DANIEL ACUÑA tear it up as Wolverine’s battle against his literal demons rages on!”

On sale March 30, 2011.

Last month I suggested that no one writes a better first issue of a series than Jason Aaron.

I think we can safely say that no one writes a better second issue either.

Wolverine and Jubilee #3 Open Thread

Wolverine and Jubilee #3 coverWolverine and Jubilee #2 (preview)
Writer: Kathryn Immonen
Art: Phil Noto

From Marvel: “When Jubilee’s pursuer turns up in the dead of night, there’s a debt that needs to be paid and the hidden costs? Killer. Wolverine has always promised to be there for Jubilee but with her held hostage as collateral in a place where not even Fedex delivers, he’s going to have to play along to try to get her back. Wolverine is headed into a dangerous Siberian dead zone to do a job that no one else can or will do to retrieve a package that defies description. And Jubilee is about to come face to face with the man responsible. ”

On sale March 23, 2011.

Not as strong as the first two issues, but Immonen and Noto are still putting out top-notch work.

We get more plot this time around, so I have high hopes for next month’s finale.

Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine #5 Open Thread

Writer: Jason Aaron
Pencils: Adam Kubert
Digital Inks: Mike Roslan

From Marvel: “Meet Czar and Big Murder. They’ve kicked Spider-Man and Wolverine’s butts throughout time, working for the mystery villain who’s been running this whole scheme. And he’s winning. But will it matter when, SPOILER ALERT, the Phoenix Force steps in? Don’t miss the penultimate chapter of Jason Aaron (WOLVERINE) and Adam Kubert’s (X-MEN) modern-day masterpiece!”

On sale March 23, 2010.

Nearly three months since the last issue.

And as I’ve said before, when I have to wait that long for an issue, the series better be spectacular. Or in this case, astonishing.

Unfortunately, I still find the villains to be rather two-bit and silly.

And while there is comedy, it just doesn’t work for me this time around. There has been so much build up of emotions that the silliness just seems out of place.

Anyone else?

Wolverine Files on CBR!

Wow!

ComicBookResources.com’s “Comic Book Legends Revealed” gave a very nice hat tip to Wolverine Files this past Friday!

COMIC LEGEND: Wolverine’s classic costume got its distinct cowl because of a Gil Kane mistake on a comic book cover that Dave Cockrum liked so much that he adopted it – even after Cockrum had drawn the costume differently throughout the actual comic!

After showing that the legend to be true, writer Brian Cronin, added the following note.

And thanks to Joel DiGiacomo of the awesome Wolverine website, Wolverine Files, for the Romita designs!

Read the whole article for yourself at ComicBookResources.com!

Thanks, Brian!

‘5 Ronin’ #1 Open Thread

From Marvel: “5 Books, 5 Heroes—1 unforgettable story of heroes pushed to their limits. It is 17th century Japan, a time and place of violent upheaval, wandering Ronin, and mysterious Geisha. Into this strange and dangerous world come Wolverine, Pyslocke, Punisher, Hulk and Deadpool. Five of Marvel’s greatest heroes…as you’ve never seen them before. Each has been wronged by a powerful tyrant. Each has taken a solemn vow…of vengeance!”

On sale March 2, 2011.

Being a fan of ‘Vagabond’ (the life of Miyamoto Musashi) and ‘Lone Wolf and Cub’, I was intrigued by this project. And while there is an interesting twist along the way, I don’t know when and if this alternate tale of Logan will be completed, as the Hulk takes center stage in the next issue.

So count me intrigued, but feeling left somewhat incomplete.

‘Wolverine/Hercules: Myths, Monsters & Mutants’ #1 Open Thread

Wolverine/Hercules: Myths, Monsters & Mutants #1 coverWolverine/Hercules: Myths, Monsters & Mutants #1 (preview)
Writers: Frank Tieri
Art: Juan Roman Cano Santacruz

From Marvel: “Gritty scribe Frank Tieri and artist Juan Santacruz bring two of Marvel’s toughest heroes together for an all new limited series, featuring covers by the legendary Joe Jusko! Matsuo—the man who killed Yuriko—is back from the dead and has one mission—kill Wolverine. But when he recruits two deadly foes of Hercules, the Olympian joins forces with Logan to show Matsuo just what it means to battle the best there is at what they do.”

On sale March 2, 2011.

I admit that I wasn’t a big fan of Frank Tieri during his ‘Wolverine’ run — so this miniseries debut caught me by surprise.

There is a delightful nod towards the ‘first’ meeting between Wolverine and Hercules at The Sign of the Lion Bar (Marvel Treasury Edition #26 back in 1980), and Hercules is a hoot throughout.

It remains to be seen whether the Matsu’o Tsurayaba storyline will live up to expectations, but for now, I am willing to give Tieri the benefit of the doubt…

‘Wolverine: The Best There Is’ #4 Open Thread

Wolverine: The Best There Is #4 coverWolverine: The Best There Is #4 (preview)
Writers: Charles Huston

From Marvel: “It’s been a long night for Logan. Tortured by a sadist with three-thousand years experience in the art, his life force consumed and his soul flayed, it’s all enough to make Wolverine kind of, well, grumpy. But the worst is yet to come…as Logan discovers Contagion’s master plan. It’s a doozy and it will change the way you look at Wolverine.”

On sale March 2, 2011.

Not to repeat myself, but this really is the biggest piece of crap I’ve read in a long time.

I mean, seriously.

Anyone else care to pile on?
