I’ve finally had it with waiting for the final revelations of Wolverine and Wolverine: Origins to be revealed. So without further ado, I present the return of the weekly updates and 010: Landau, Luckman and Lake, version 2.0.
Mini-reviews of new Wolverine appearances in comic stores on 05/09/07:
-Wolverine: Origins #14 (Preview): The pace of this series is killing me! I usually don’t mind slower paced stories if done well (Planetary, Naruto), but between this and Loeb’s Wolverine, I’m absolutely dyin’ here!
-New Avengers #30 (Preview): Surprisingly weak story and art.
-Marvel Zombies: Dead Days (Preview): Wolverine against the zombies.
-Black Panther #27 (Preview): Zombie Wolverine, welcome to Earth 616.
-Hulk and Power Pack #3 (Cover): Final page cameo.
Mini-review of new Wolverine appearance in comic stores on 05/02/07:
-Astonishing X-Men #21 (Preview): If you are not reading this series, go right now and buy the entire run. This is simply the best X-Men series ever. Joss Whedon is a brilliant writer and John Cassaday is simply the best artist in the business. Re-reading this series this week reminded me of what it felt like when I originally read the early issues of Uncanny X-Men by Claremont and Byrne.
Mini-reviews of new Wolverine appearances in comic stores on 04/25/07:
-Wolverine #53 (Preview): Wolverine vs. Sabretooth, Round 4. Clearly we need to wait to see how this storyline will be resolved, but so far, this run has felt padded, overly dramatic and generally unsatisfying, not to mention a continuity disaster. But other than that…
-Fallen Son: The Death of Captain America – Avengers (Preview): The anger stage. Much better than denial.
-Exiles #93 (Cover): Horrible costume for Hydra-Wolverine.
Mini-review of new Wolverine appearance in comic stores on 04/18/07:
-Marvel Adventures The Avengers #12 (Cover): Horrid, horrid series.
Wolverine: Origins #13 hit the shelves and lo and behold, no flashbacks. So updates are on hold until I can figure out how to accommodate the previous Cyber/Silas Burr flashbacks and the eye patch Logan wears while at Jasmine Falls. Not to mention the rethinking the events to assimilate Jeph Loeb’s revelations in Wolverine #52.
-Early reference to Silas Burr from Wolverine #79 added to 006: The Lost Years and minor updates made to 008: Ogun and 009: World War II.
Mini-reviews of new Wolverine appearances in comic stores on 04/11/07:
-Wolverine: Origins #13 (Preview): Dreadful issue. No flashbacks.
-New Avengers #29 (Preview): Pretty good issue. And Wolverine actually gets some prominent dialogue.
Mini-reviews of new Wolverine appearances in comic stores on 04/04/07:
-Fallen Son: The Death of Captain America #1 (Preview): Stars Wolverine in the Kubler-Ross phase of denial. Rather disappointing if you ask me.
-Marvel Zombies/Army of Darkness #2 (Preview): Wolverine graces the cover but not the story itself.
-And reader comments on the Wolverine Files:
“Thanks for all your work on 005: Sabretooth and Silver Fox. It’s the clearest summary of the ‘Cabin’ storyline on the web.” — J. Tovar
Mini-reviews of new Wolverine appearances in comic stores on 03/28/07:
-Wolverine #52 (Preview): My apologies in advance, but this issue genuinely deserves an extended rant. So if you haven’t read this issue yet, major spoiler alert. Aside from this bizarre series of dreams we’ve been forced to endure, Jeph Loeb (a terrific writer by all accounts) finally reveals Logan and Sabretooth’s very first meeting. A very first meeting at odds with all previous continuity. Logan claims to have met Sabretooth in Japan at the behest of the Hand. Logan speaks fluent Japanese and is adept at using a samurai sword. The only problem is that Chris Claremont has shown the first battle between Logan and Sabretooth to have taken place on the frontiers of Canada before World War I when Logan had no real fighting style. Further, it has been shown demonstrably that Logan did not learn how to wield a samurai sword until the late 1930s. Between Wolverine: Origins and this story, I fear I will be forced to move around several events from Wolverine’s past. So until this storyline wraps up, I will hold off rewriting the entire chronology just to fit this flashback in.
-Ultimate X-Men #80 (Preview): Wolverine leaves the X-Men.
Minor update made to 007: The Thirties including new images.
