Wolverine Week-04-in-Review: Weapon X, Astonishing, Manifest, Legacy

Wolverine “appeared” in eight titles from this week (January 21, 2009), two reviewed yesterday (Wolverine: Origins #32 and Dark Avengers #1) and six more here…

“The Job”

As much as I’ve enjoyed this series, this issue is a bit of a letdown.

Probably would have worked perfectly as a ‘Wolverine: First Class’ Annual or ‘Weapon X: First Class’ special one-shot…

Astonishing X-Men #28 coverAstonishing X-Men #28 (preview)
Writer: Warren Ellis
Penciler: Simone Bianchi; Inkers: Simone Bianchi and Andrea Silvestri

This story is getting a lot better and there are some genuinely awesome Wolverine moments…

Manifest Destiny #5 (preview)
“Nick’s”
Writer: Frank Tieri
Artist: Ben Oliver

Wolverine gets to play the tough guy in the second story of the issue.

And for Frank Tieri, it’s pretty good!

X-Men Legacy #220 coverX-Men Legacy #220 (preview)
Writer: Mike Carey
Penciler: Scot Eaton
Inker: Andrew Hennessy

Though Wolverine graces the cover, he only appears on one page via an Australian Outback flashback…

Mighty Avengers #21 (preview)
“The Smartest Man in the Room”
Writer: Dan Slott
Penciler: Khoi Pham
Inker: Allen Martinez & Danny Miki

Utterly baffling story by Dan Slott includes the death of Wolverine.

Really.

Is that a spoiler?

Marvel Adventures the Avengers #32 (preview)
“The Big Payoff”
Writer: Paul Tobin
Penciler: Matteo Lolli
Inker: Christian Vecchia

Wolverine’s on the cover, but AWOL inside (thankfully) because he doesn’t pay his taxes.

you say the Native, the woman who escaped Weapon X, from more or less Woverine (vol.3) #16?? It could be her but again, it depends. If we assume it’s Sinister’s own lab, then she’s not because she escaped the Weapon X facility. As you said: “The one piece of new information from my point of view did come from this story”. I will agree to this if Sinister was involved in the Weapon X program, but at the same time I think you are right about Sinister’s own lab, it doesn’t make sense to steal your own diary from the… Read more »

DiG was right.

The one with the Native (that could of been the Native) was from the original Weapon X facility that Logan originally escaped from.

I think Sinister is at his own lab with the Marauders in the isolation tanks.

The one piece of new information from my point of view did come from this story, however, that there were three others in isolation tanks at Experiment X. One is probably the Native, but I don’t know who the other two are.

Any thoughts?

I believe there are TWO sets of isolation tanks.

One set of three at Weapon X. (pages 4, 5 and 6).

And a DIFFERENT set (last page) — four or five tanks — at Sinister’s that houses the Marauders.

For those who read Weapon X – First class 3, I don’t what you think about this miniseries but I read some interview (I think ir was an interview at marvel.com) that the miniseries was supposed to reveal something new about Weapon X. Now that the miniseries is finished, I can tell I didn’t find nothing new about Weapon X. Also I have a question for those who read issue #3, in the last page of the story about Gambit, when Sinister transforms himself in his true form, does he appear at the Weapon X facility? or should we assume… Read more »
