Reviews: New Wolverine Comics (05/31/07)

Mini-reviews of new Wolverine appearances in comic stores on 06/20/07:

-Wolverine #54 (Preview): I’ve been trying to figure out why I am not enjoying this storyline. Jeph Loeb is a very good writer and Simone Bianchi has done some terrific pages. And I think I finally hit upon it in this issue: Jeph Loeb is not taking Wolverine seriously. The writing is sloppy (the excessive cursing, “cute” dialogue, over-the-top declarations), the pacing is dreadful (six issues to tell a three issue storyline), and despite a series of excessively confusing flashbacks, nothing really has happened. And don’t get me started with lupine evolution (let’s see, we have seven examples of unrelated lupine mutation, they must be a new species evolved from wolves!) And to top it all off, the final issue isn’t due until 7/25.
–X-23: Target X #6 (Preview): X-23’s first encounter with Wolverine.
–New Avengers: Illuminati #3 (Preview): Secret Wars flashback with Wolverine cameo.

Wolverine Files Update XV (5/28/07)

-Information from Wolverine’s profile in Civil War Files has been added to 009: World War II and 010: Landau, Luckman and Lake.
Wolverine: Origins #14 added to 006: The Lost Years. Major changes coming to post-Landau, Luckman and Lake sections.

Reviews: New Wolverine Comics (05/23/07)

In a stunning upset within the comic book industry, no Wolverine appearances today!

Reviews: New Wolverine Comics (05/16/07)

Mini-reviews of new Wolverine appearances in comic stores on 05/16/07:

-Exiles #94 (Preview): This used to be a fun series. Unfortunately, Claremont’s angst is crushing the life out of it. Features Hydra Wolverine.
-The Ultimates 2 #13 (Preview): Ultimate Wolverine briefly cameos in this series finale.
-Marvel Adventures The Avengers #13 (Preview): I actually met someone who likes this series. That makes one of us. Wolverine co-stars.

Wolverine Files Update XIV (05/15/07)

I’ve finally had it with waiting for the final revelations of Wolverine and Wolverine: Origins to be revealed. So without further ado, I present the return of the weekly updates and 010: Landau, Luckman and Lake, version 2.0.

Reviews: New Wolverine Comics (05/09/07)

Mini-reviews of new Wolverine appearances in comic stores on 05/09/07:

-Wolverine: Origins #14 (Preview): The pace of this series is killing me! I usually don’t mind slower paced stories if done well (Planetary, Naruto), but between this and Loeb’s Wolverine, I’m absolutely dyin’ here!
-New Avengers #30 (Preview): Surprisingly weak story and art.
-Marvel Zombies: Dead Days (Preview): Wolverine against the zombies.
-Black Panther #27 (Preview): Zombie Wolverine, welcome to Earth 616.
-Hulk and Power Pack #3 (Cover): Final page cameo.

Reviews: New Wolverine Comics (05/02/07)

Mini-review of new Wolverine appearance in comic stores on 05/02/07:

-Astonishing X-Men #21 (Preview): If you are not reading this series, go right now and buy the entire run. This is simply the best X-Men series ever. Joss Whedon is a brilliant writer and John Cassaday is simply the best artist in the business. Re-reading this series this week reminded me of what it felt like when I originally read the early issues of Uncanny X-Men by Claremont and Byrne.
