Ditto. I was pretty blown away with how bad this issue was both written and drawn. Since when has Beast reacted to anything more aggressively than Wolverine? I liked Beast’s reaction, but like you said, and one of the thread’s all agreed to, Wolverine should’ve leveled Cyclops or at the very least say something to the fact that, like Beast said, this is all Scott’s thing, not Hope’s. It’s on Cyclops, and a well written Logan would’ve easily seen that and not put any of that weight on the teenage girl herself. The second I read that my first thought was “he never would’ve said that, the same way he never judged a mission to save Jubilee or Kitty or X-23.” He should’ve dropped Scott the way he did earlier in X-Force when he put X-23 in danger, if not worse. Kurt was his BEST FRIEND. Lame sauce.

Where to start…

1. Continuity. How hard is it to maintain continuity from chapter to chapter in this crossover? Last issue, Colossus learns of Nightcrawler’s death along with everyone else after getting off the X-Plane. In this issue, he is already on the island with Kitty and learns of Nightcrawler’s death after everyone else.

2. Artwork. I like Terry Dodson’s artwork in general, but in this issue, characters are indistinguishable from each other. All of the women have the same face as do most of the men. Magneto and Cable are nearly the same person. Kitty and Hope. Angel and Doug (or is that Sam Guthrie?). I found myself rereading the issue multiple times just to figure out who the heck the characters were. I still don’t know who read the eulogy.

3. Tone. For a memorial issue of a major X-Men character, the issue felt tone deaf to my ears. Much too lighthearted for my tastes. Only Beast’s reaction worked for me — and Scott’s response was truly worthy of a public beating.

4. Wolverine’s Response. I understand trying a different tact with Wolverine’s reaction. The anger overwhelmed by grief. But when he finally snapped, it should have been squarely directed at Cyclops (see point 3) and not Hope. Clearly the next issue of X-Force will focus on his anger and grief, but this was a huge letdown.
