From Marvel (preview): “Fifty years ago the heroes of the Marvel Universe were massacred and as far as Old Man Logan is concerned, WOLVERINE died with them. During that final battle, something happened to Logan…something so traumatic that he hasn’t popped his claws since. Now Logan lives out his days a shell of a man, his warrior spirit long since crushed by the horrible weight of the secret he carries with him. What happened? Finally, the darkest chapter in Logan’s history can be told! ” On sale January 2, 2009.
Mysterio?!? Freakin’ Mysterio?!? Are you kidding me?
Sorry, I’m just not buying it. Wolverine has bested Mesmero. He has one of the highest willpowers in the Marvel Universe. Personally, I just don’t see this working.
Of course, if one does buy the premise, it makes for a pretty compelling story.
But enough of what I think.

I personally disliked the Patch and Madripoor story line. I also disagree with Aelflar.
I’m highly intelligent and I enjoy the comics enough to buy them every week. And since they are selling well, I assume it’s not just the ones with low intellect buying them. (Unless you assume most of the world has no intellect.) I personally don’t think this character is ruining Marvel, most of my friends enjoy the stories for what it’s worth. Personally I think some people over analyze things too much, which is why they ruin a decent story for themselves.
I agree with Black Dew.
The emotional impact of this issue, the great art work, and everything else about this story is too great to let one nitpick ruin the entire story. Besides we don’t know the entire story yet.
Maybe the big bad guy gave all the villains a upgrade or whatever.

I have to agree with the idea that people over analyze the stories too much. I mean it was done with this story alone with the idea that Mysterio was able to fool Wolverine while others like Mesmero have failed in their attempts to control him mentally. I mean I even attempted to rationalize how Mysterio succeeded after you guys questioned it. And as for Wolverine becoming the hack and slash no brains drama, isn’t that sort of the point of Mark Millar’s current run? This was pretty good. The Mysterio thing really caught me by surprise. I was not sure what the surprise would be, but this was definitely not one of my guesses. I liked it a lot and I think it gave a pretty good reason why Logan would be so distressed. The X-Men have been his closest friends and he killed them all. I do not think the story is perfect, but its fun and pretty solid through out.
I agree with Aelflar in how a lot of his development has flatlined and been replaced by mindless violence. Do I sound too old if I say I miss the good ol’ days of Patch and Madripoor?
Still, I thought this was a better issue than we’ve seen in a while.
It’s funny we’re talking about Logan not being “human”, yet the characters portrayed in Old Man Logan have a lot of human emotion behind them. Comusiv hit the nail on the head with the opinion I’m trying to express.

No, Roleplay, I meant to say that fans are smart people and thus, deserve better than the old “oh no, I killed them all” kind of scenario. I also tried to highlight that most companies think that adding violence to everything makes that thing sell better and this is what insults most people`s intellect. I don`t mind a bit of rampaging about as long as it`s backed up by a clever and complex plot, but in most cases is just gratuitous. They might as well change his name to “Victor Creed II”. This will be the last comic of Wolverine I ever purchase and I have been a fan since the 80’s.
Also, do not discount Mysterio so quickly. We do not know who is behind the mask and it seems he had help because he was able to fake smell as well as sight and sound. I know he is a second stringer, but I like it when they sometimes rise out of the ranks to greater things.
Yeah. Kinda dubious on the mesmero thing. He came out and I was like, what the–? Wolverine’s overcome big mind controllers much higher on the scale than Mesmero before.
But I think the horror of what happened kinda made the irritation of the premise fall in the background. Poor Logan.
And big “What if,” but a powerful one, if you can believe it, the rest of the story hits you hard.
I can definitely see why Logan doesn’t want to pop his claws again.

I don`t like the way Logan`s going nowadays..it`s all hack `n`slash no-brain drama with no soul….they`re just stupidly tormenting him in ridiculous ways and slowly killing his character..it`s downright sad! (not to mention dumb and a desperate marketing move for the masses who allegedly like this kind of ‘violently emotional’ shenanigans…As a fan (and consumer in Marvel`s eyes), I find that such perspectives are nothing short of panem et circenses and thus feel they greatly insult my and everybody elses`intellect….
